Canton Police Department's Citizens Police Academy is a six-week program intended for individuals who are interested in acquiring insight and knowledge on how the police department works to serve the Canton community.
Mission of the Academy
Individuals attending the academy will be educated on policies and operational procedures of the department through presentations, demonstrations and hands-on activities. Students' personal knowledge on law enforcement's role in the criminal justice system will be enhanced, as well as their understanding of the training and education required for police officers to effectively handle the daily challenges of police work. The overall intent of the academy is to develop positive relationships between citizens and police officers, enhancing cooperation, understanding and general good will.
The next session is scheduled to be held in the Spring of 2017. Applications will be accepted during the month of February 2017.
Applications will be accepted through March 13, 2016. Applications may be submitted online or printed and returned to the Canton Police Department, 1150 S. Canton Center Road, in Canton. (Applications are also available at the front desk of the police department.)
Age 21 or over
No felony convictions and no misdemeanor convictions within the past 3 years
Applicants are subject to a background check
Notification of Acceptance
Class size is limited. All applicants will be notified by mail if they have been accepted or not.
