The Planning Services Division is located on the second floor of Canton's Administration Building. This division is responsible for long-range planning for the community, administers the Zoning Ordinance and other land development ordinances, and acts as the technical staff to the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals. In addition, Planning Services also runs the annual Tree Planting Partnership Program and administers the community's Geographic Information System which has many map products available. Township Maps
ZoningCanton's Zoning Ordinance regulates the use of land and structures known as the Zoning Ordinance. It provides for the regulation of land development and the establishment of districts. Planning Services is responsible for reviewing proposed development plans which include the Master Deeds and Covenants and Restrictions to insure that they meet all zoning requirements of the township. LandscapingPlanning Services is responsible for ensuring compliance with the landscape plan for developments throughout the construction process. A plan typically includes all common areas, entryways, berms, and detention pond landscaping. Street trees in front of residential property are the homeowners responsibility to maintain and/or replace if necessary. The common elements of residential developments become the responsibility of the homeowner association to maintain. |
