Welcome to the Charter Township of Canton general voting information page.

From this page you can use the related link box located on the right side of this page to search for information on voting in Canton, apply for an absentee ballot, check your voter registration status, and locate where you vote on Election Day.

If you are new to the Canton Community, make sure you register to vote by the close of registration on October 5, 2009 to be qualified to vote November 3, 2009. You can make your voter registration change at either the Clerk's office or any Michigan Secretary of State branch office.

If your residential address has changed please make your voter registration change at either the Clerk's office or any Michigan Secretary of State branch office.

Three New Voter Precincts created for 2010!

Effective January 2010 Precincts #20, #25, #35 and #38 have been subdivided to create three new voter precincts:

  • Precinct #20 has been split into Precincts #20 and #40
  • Precinct #38 has been split into Precincts #38 and #41
  • Precinct #25 and # 35 have been split into Precincts #25, #35 and #42

New voter cards have been mailed to all registered voters who are affected by this voter precinct realignment. Cards were mailed on January 26, 2010.

Important Election Dates for 2010

  • May 4: Wayne-Westland School Election/ Administered by City of Westland Clerk. The Wayne-Westland School District only represents precincts # 2, #15, and #28.
  • May 11: Candidates for County Convention (Precinct Delegate) file an Affidavit Identity for August Primary by 4:00 pm at local Clerk's office or office of the County Clerk.
  • August 3: Statewide Primary Election
  • November 2: Statewide General Election and including Van Buren School District Election. The Van Buren School District only represents precincts #20, #33 and #40.

 

Michigan Law - Voter Picture Identification

Michigan law now requires each voter present an acceptable form of picture identification. A ballot CANNOT be issued unless a voter provides an acceptable form of picture identification or signs an affidavit which affirms the voter is not in possession of an acceptable form of identification and wishes to vote.

Acceptable forms of Identification include:
  • Drivers License or Personal Identification Card
  • Federal or State Governmental Photo Identification Card
  • Valid US Passport or Valid Passport Card
  • Military Photo Identification Card
  • Student Identification with photo from high school or an accredited institution of higher education
  • Tribal Photo Identification Card
