The Committee for Community Excellence (CCE) is a member of the Leisure Services Advisory Committee. They work to promote and publicize projects that support the vision of excellence for the community and to acknowledge projects that further enhance the quality of life in the community.
Mission Statement
To promote a pleasant, aesthetic environment of the Canton community by creating, participating in, and supporting activities and programs that foster a sense of community pride by involving ourselves and others in the community.
The CCE is made up of volunteer members. Members are appointed for three-year terms. There are two township liaisons to the CCE.
Design Excellence Awards
Each year the CCE works to recogize single family homes and business they help enhance the community by hosting an annual Design Excellence Awards ceremony. The goal of the Awards Committee is to recognize design excellence in landscape, site and architecture within the community. Each year awards are handed out for Landscape Design, Architectural Design and Environmental Design.
- Categories for the Landscape Design Award include neighborhood entryways, residential homes, commercial retail and office buildings, industrial facilities, and public facilities. The award will be based on quality of design, use of plant materials, year round appeal, and creativity.
- Categories for the Environmental Excellence Award include detention pond maintenance, preservation, and wetland mitigation. The award is intended to highlight projects that preserve or enhance natural features, use native vegetation, and create natural habitats.
- Categories for the Architectural Design Award include commercial retail and office buildings, industrial facilities, additions, renovations and remodeling, and public facilities. The award will be based on building design, quality of building materials, and quality of site design.
Nomination forms for the awards program are distributed each May throughout the community for anyone interested in nominating a property. A nominating committee made up of landscape professionals and expertsis responsible for judging the properties. Judgingtakes place mid-July through mid-August and awards are presented at an appreciation ceremony inthe Fall.
The Awards Committee can always use more volunteers to assist with the appreciation ceremony, nominations, and judging process. Meetings usually begin in April and last through October. Anyone in the community is welcome to serve as a member of the Awards Committee. For judges, we are looking for people who have experience in landscape design and/or architecture.
