Job OpeningsThe Human Resources Division works under the direction of the Supervisor's Office and within the guidelines of the Merit Ordinance. The Human Resources Division provides Township Departments and Divisions with consultation on employee issues and is entrusted with human resource management and providing guidance on complex personnel issues. The Human Resources Manager serves as the Personnel Director under the Merit Ordinance and acts as Secretary to the Merit Commission meetings. Recruitment and TestingThe Human Resources Division is responsible for all recruitment and testing for the Township. The Division advertises vacancies, accepts applications, administers written tests, screening interviews and oral boards. Eligibility lists are established as a result of the testing process. All Township positions, Union and Non-Union, undergo a complete factor analysis to determine proper job classification and pay grade. Human Resources PoliciesIt is the Human Resources Division's responsibility to keep up to date with changes in employment laws, and set policies for Canton Township in accordance with these laws. The Human Resources Division ensures that full compliance of State and Federal regulations, including postings and required reports, are met. Wage comparability studies are compiled for participation in the collective bargaining process. The Human Resources Division develops and implements Township policies on laws such as the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disability Act. Human Resources provides assistance in accommodating employees and residents with disabilities. The Human Resources Manager is also the Township's ADA Coordinator. Organizational OutlineCanton Township currently employs approximately 350 full- and part-time employees. The township consists of five departments which each house several divisions. There is a Board of Trustees which consists of three (3) full-time Elected Officials: the Supervisor, Clerk and Treasurer; and four (4) part-time trustees.
