SENIOR COUNSELOR (B.L.O.C.K. Teen Center)

RATE OF PAY: $8.76 per hr.

JOB DESCRIPTION
SENIOR COUNSELOR B.L.O.C.K.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
The Senior Counselor position is a part-time position responsible for leading and supervising activities at the B.L.O.C.K. facility, as well as Township activities held at schools, playgrounds, athletic fields, community centers, senior centers and/ or recreation sites.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed)

  • Plan, organize, monitor and conduct recreation activities for B.L.O.C.K. participants
  • Prepare facilities and equipment for planned events
  • Responsible for facility and equipment appearance and cleanliness
  • Ensure use of safety procedures
  • Assist with planning, coordination, and preparation of special events
  • Supervise and monitor participants at a variety of recreation areas and facilities
  • Responsible for assignment of tasks to Junior Counselors
  • Responsible for supervision of other part-time/seasonal employees as directed
  • Assume lead worker responsibilities for events and activities as assigned
  • Transport participants to/from facility in Township vehicles
  • Performs other assigned duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age of 18 years old
  • Must possess a current, valid Michigan Drivers License with a driving history that does not createliability concerns; which includes, but is not limited to, convictions for reckless driving, carelessdriving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving.
  • Must be able to possess a valid Michigan Chauffeur License within 14 days of hire
  • Must earn First Aid certifications within 60 days of employment
  • Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and thepublic tactfully and courteously
  • Skill in organizing self and others; ability to self-start in discharging responsibilities
  • Prior experience working with children of varying ages preferred
  • Ability to operate department vehicles, including but not limited to a 12-passenger van
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting constraints and staff availability.
