Salute to the Great American Songbook Comes to Canton’s Village Theater

Canton, MI, January 22, 2010 - Tickets are now on sale for "A Salute to the Great American Songbook," featuring five Las Vegas quality vocalists, at the Village Theater at Cherry Hill slated for Friday, February 12.

The Great American Songbook, Classic Standards or Jazz Standards are all terms referring to the music from the 1920’s to 1960 that included music from Broadway, Hollywood musicals and "Tin Pan Alley."

Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Hoagy Carmichael and Johnny Mercer are some of the composers and lyricists who have contributed to the Great American Songbook. Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Jack Jones, Steve Lawrence are among the singers that were the most influential interpreters of the Great American Songbook.

Contemporary musicians including Willie Nelson, Harry Connick Jr., Michael Feinstein, Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow, Linda Ronstadt and Michael Buble have aided in the revival of the popularity of the Great American Songbook through studio albums covering the Songbook classics. "At Last", "Unforgettable," "I’ve Got the World on a String," "The Way You Look Tonight," "I’ve Got You Under My Skin," "The Lady is a Tramp," and "That’s Amore," are some of the songs you can expect to hear at the performance," stated the show’s producer and Canton resident, Kevin Brazell.

Chris Scarlett of Novi, Gary Mazzola from Southgate, Fowlerville resident, Mario Mesina will join Marcia Allen and Jymi Dill both from the Flint area to provide the vocal talent.

Tickets for the 8:00 p.m. show are priced at $20 with a five-dollar discount for seniors, youth and groups of 15 or more. Tickets can be purchased at the Village Theater Box Office, online at cantonvillagetheater.org or by phone at 734-394-5460.
