Canton’s International Festival To Celebrate Diversity

Canton, MI – January 26, 2010 Experience music, dance and drama from around the world when the Canton International Festival returns to The Village Theater at Cherry Hill on Saturday, February 6, 2010. This cultural and educational festival offers participants entertainment and experiences celebrating diversity from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Featured performances will represent various cultures and countries, including: India, China, Philippines, Ireland, and African American. Staged performances will range from dance to mime. Back by popular demand, several sitar performers have been scheduled to appear in the lineup.

The Plymouth-Canton Chinese Learning Center will feature popular dances, including: "Enjoying the Sun Set", "Dream into the Peach Garden", and "Happy Greeting". These will be performed by: Ann Arbor Senior Group, An Hua Chinese School dance group, and the New Century Chinese School dance class, respectively.

Members of a local Bollyfit fitness class will also demonstrate exercise through dance to show how Bollyfit synergizes artistic elements of Bollywood "film dances" with classical Bharat Natyam and Bhangra styles in a dynamic dance experience.

Numerous cultural exhibits will be on display, in addition to jewelry from India, African crafts, as well as additional items from the Philippines and Sri Lanka. International refreshments and snacks will also be on hand for a nominal fee. In addition, patrons are encouraged to participate in a craft activity presented by the Bilingual Fun Group.

This FREE event is sponsored with funding from The Partnership for the Arts and Humanities, Inc. and is presented by the all volunteer Multicultural Committee of the Canton Commission for Culture, Arts and Heritage.

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road in Canton, is a regional center for the arts that offers the magic of live theatre, soul-stirring music, the thrill of the dance, and the enjoyment of fine art exhibitions and events, in addition to providing a home for several cultural organizations and community groups.
