Canton Farmers Market To Bring Back Winter Markets To Preservation Park

Canton, MI – January 16, 2013 - The Canton Farmer Market is gearing up for three special Winter Farmers Markets that will be held on Sunday, February 10; Sunday, March 10; and Sunday, April 21 in the Cady-Boyer Barn, located at 500 N. Ridge Road in Preservation Park.  All of these markets in this winter series will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., inside this pre-Civil War-era non-heated barn.

Eighteen local food growers and producers have signed on to participate in the Winter Markets.  Market favorite Chef Paul will be kicking off the February 10 Winter Market from 10:30 am - 12:00 p.m. with a special cooking demonstration.  Be sure to visit Chef Paul and see what's cooking!  

“We’re very pleased to be able to operate three markets during the winter months that provide vendors with the opportunity to sell their locally grown products directly to market-goers,” said Canton Farmers Market Manager Tina Lloyd.  “Our goal is to ensure that all individuals in the Canton community have access to the freshest, most nutritious locally grown food the region has to offer.”

The Miller Elementary Second and Third Grade Brownie Troop will be on site collecting pasta for the Open Door Ministry at all three Winter Markets, since pasta is a staple in the weekly Open Door Ministry food distribution to local folks in need. 

Market-goers will be pleasantly surprised at the amazing array of fresh produce, meats, artisan cheeses, and unique bakery items. Locally grown and produced food available at the Winter Markets, includes: farm fresh produce grown in hoop houses (spinach, cabbage, mixed greens, carrots, turnips, kale, Swiss Chard & more), farm eggs, smoked fish, honey, canned sauerkraut, popcorn kernels for popping, specialty locally roasted coffee beans, sauces, baked goods including low sugar & gluten free, jam, granola, natural anti-biotic free meats, conventional meats, artisan cheese, hand blended teas, meat sticks, hand cut jerky, artisan bread as well as handcrafted soap and soy candles.

During its regular season, the Canton Farmers Market offers plenty of delicious seasonal produce, including fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers and specialty products from area vendors.  The market will again be open every Sunday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., rain or shine, May 19 through October 20, 2013 in Preservation Park, located at 500 N. Ridge Road.
