Canton Commission For Culture, Arts, and Heritage Unveils New Logo

Canton, MI – February 21, 2013 - On Tuesday, February 12, 2013, the Canton Commission for Culture, Arts, and Heritage introduced a new logo and slogan that aim to strengthen its mission, enhance its brand and engage a broader audience. The new logo was selected out of seventeen entries from a design and slogan contest that was held in December 2012.

The winning entry was submitted by Joyce Tseng, a Canton resident who was awarded a $500 cash prize that was generously provided by Health Alliance Plan (HAP).  Honorable mention went to Tiffany McGraw of Macomb, Michigan who submitted the winning slogan and was awarded a $100 gift certificate.

Tseng’s winning entry - a joyous figure that celebrates the many arts, including music, theatre, and fine arts by supporting them in its branches just as a tree trunk would do – boasts a contemporary design that strengthens and clarifies the Commission’s brand identity and supports the goal of increasing awareness for the importance of Culture, Arts and Heritage in everyday life.

“The Commission selected a design and slogan that both acknowledge the purpose of the Cultural Commission and subtly identify its roots,” said Anthony Davis, Canton Commission for Culture, Arts and Heritage Chairperson. “The graphic is modern and still focuses on the ‘tree’ aspect that we’ve come to love in Canton.  The branches of the tree are a nod to what our Commission continually strives to support in our community. The slogan of: ‘We Preserve. We Promote. We Celebrate.’ also showcases several of the Commission’s significant on-going goals.”

The Canton Commission for Culture, Arts and Heritage will begin utilizing the new logo and slogan immediately on all promotional materials, as well as on its website, and in upcoming advertising campaigns.

This dedicated group of volunteers of the Canton Commission for Culture, Arts and Heritage continuously advocates the development of high-quality cultural arts programs that are accessible to everyone in the community.  Programs include, but are not limited to, visual arts, drama, music, dance, historical heritage, and humanities.  Preparations are currently underway to promote the 3rd Annual Canton Acts of Culture Week from April 27 through May 5, 2013.  This week long celebration will feature a variety of cultural offerings at various locations throughout the Canton community.  Other programs presented by the Canton Commission for Culture, Arts and Heritage include:  The International Festival; Dr. Martin Luther King Event; African American History Through Artists Eyes; Fusion Festival; the Gandhi Festival; and more.

The Canton Commission for Culture, Arts, and Heritage meets the second Monday quarterly (February/May/August/November) at 7 p.m. in the Canton Township Administration Building.  For more information on this commission, visit or email
