"Are You My Mother?"

ArtsPower

Date & Times

2/11/2012 11:00:00 AM

Not knowing that her mother has left the nest to gather food, Baby Bird decides to find her. While searching, Baby Bird meets an array of colorful characters-Cat, Dog, and Hen-each of whom she greets with the simple plea: Are you my mother? Unfortunately for Baby Bird neither Cat nor Dog nor Hen turns out to be her mother. Her courage is bolstered by the unlikely ‘family’ of characters who are ready to lend a paw or a wing to help their friend. Based on P.D. Eastman’s classic picture book for young readers, Are You My Mother? is Arts Power’s enchanting musical about Baby Bird’s journey-an adventure that overflows with love, dedication, and friendship. Adapted for the stage by playwright and lyricist Greg Gunning and composer Richard DeRosa, Are You My Mother? Shows children and adults alike how loss can be turned into empowerment and how Baby Bird ends up finding more than she is looking for.

Suppose he decides to apply his unorthodox methods to you and your big family. The results are embarrassing, funny and-it must be admitted-extremely effective! To Anne, however, the chief effect seems to be that of making them seem ridiculous to everyone else at school-especially to the boys! Dad pushes ahead with better organization for his large and delightful family. He puts up a chart for the young people to initial after completing each household task, uses a rung as an imaginary bathtub to demonstrate how to take a really efficient bath and appoints a utilities officer to levy fines on wasters of electricity. While the situations are often uproarious, there’s a serious reason. Anne and Dad are miserable at the lack of understanding between them. Dad becomes aware of how much Anne has grown up.

Country Roads: The Music of John Denver & Dan Fogelberg

Village Theater Presents

Date & Times

4/13/2012 8:00:00 PM

The Music of John Denver and Dan Fogelberg have a special association with Colorado and the Rockies. In very different ways, these two troubadours epitomized the singer/songwriter movement of the 70's that grew out of folk scene of the previous decades. Denver's songs are often celebrations of the natural beauty of the mountains; Fogelberg’s more often tell complex stories of personal relationships. But the sound common to both, based on acoustic guitar and featuring a soaring tenor voice, is the sound of an era that re-discovered the romance of natural America. Heavenly versions of some of your favorites brought to you by these incredible new musicians will leave you feeling like you spent an evening sprinkled with the magic of the original artists.
