First Friday Series

Target Audience
Adults and Young Adults

Date & Times

Description
Michigan native Claudia Schmidt is a musician who has always hated categories; she describes herself a “creative noisemaker” which has irritated some critics but delighted many audiences, who learn to expect anything at a Schmidt concert – hymn, poem, bawdy verse, torch song, satire, and the gamut of emotions. Her live performances are not to be missed. Her musicality is astonishing. Her joy and love of performing are contagious. She can weave the elements of music and stage into a program so unified and full of life that one critic has described a Claudia Schmidt concert as “…a lot like falling in love. You never know what’s going to happen next, and chances are it’s going to be wonderful, every moment is burned into your memory, and you know you’ll never be the same again.” Cash Bar Available.

Description
In Geppetto and Son, as in the original Pinocchio story, a wooden puppet aspires to become a real boy, and faces lessons about telling the truth. In Geppetto and Son, Pinocchio's dad has some lessons to learn in being a real father. After many adventures, the two manage to stumble into a caring, accepting relationship. The co-creators have kept the callous puppeteer Stromboli (from the first film), whose song is an operatic tenor recitative, and have also invented Professor Buonragazzo who 'desings' perfect, made-to-order offspring, and the Ring Leader who turns children into donkeys. The show now incorporated a new song not included in the original Disney 'Geppetto' movie along with 'When You Wish Upon a Star' and 'I've Got No Strings' from the original Disney 'Pinocchio' movie. Based on the original Disney television musical, Geppetto and Son features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by David Stern.

'And the Angels Sing': A Tribute to Johnny Mercer
Fourth Wish

Target Audience
Families

Date & Times
6/26/2010 8:00:00 PM

Description
Johnny Mercer occupies a special place in the pantheon of American songwriters. Mercer wrote lyrics to great songs like Dream, Something’s Gotta Give, Blues in the Night, That Old Black Magic, Jeepers Creepers, You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby, Moon River and Days of Wine and Roses, to name just a few. As an encore to last season’s Cole Porter program, Fourth Wish is pleased to welcome back Barbara Rosene, a passionate interpreter of American popular music. Robert L. Daniels of Variety has described her with these words; "poise, beauty, and the voice of a lark, sensual, witty and a touch of class." Join us for what promises to be a very special evening, dedicated to the wistfully poetic songs of the great Johnny Mercer.
