Club 55+ Activities and Events
New and Modified In-Person Programs
To better address our community’s programming needs in this ever-changing environment, Canton Leisure Services will be modifying all new and existing programming opportunities here. All of these programs have been developed to allow for safe physical distancing, smaller class sizes, equipment sanitizing procedures, and more.
Look for exciting new recreational programs and events to be rolled out on an ongoing basis throughout the fall. As we move forward, watch for new programs to be announced as they become available, with registration beginning once posted.

Indoor Programs
Please Note: Canton Club 55+ Program Guidelines
- Masks are strongly recommended while inside the Summit.
- Participants must pre-register for each activity, excluding billiards.
- Club 55+ center is now open for limited in-person activities. The desk is open Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm.

AFGHAN/KNITTING CLUB
- Join this wonderful group every Tuesday to make afghans for family, friends, and our soldiers. This group also works on knitted/crocheted dishcloths as well as hats and scarves for the homeless veterans

Billiards
- Come on in, bring a friend or meet new ones and participate in a game of eight ball on one of our two 8ft tables.

Euchre
- Euchre is a fast-paced partner-based card game. It requires a little bit of skill as well as luck! Played usually with the highest 32 cards, in which each player is dealt 5 cards and the player making the trump is required to take at least 3 tricks to win. Come join the fun!

Mah Jongg
- Similar to the Western card game rummy, Mah Jongg is a game of skill, strategy and calculation and involves a degree of chance. The group is very welcoming and will teach those that are new to the game. Come and enjoy this fun yet challenging game.

INtro to bid whist card game

- Join us to learn how to play this exciting, popular partnership trick-taking game called Bid Whist. It is played with a standard 52 card deck plus 2 jokers. There are 4 players consisting of two teams. The game starts with each team at zero, and the object of the game is to reach a score of 7 or more points, or force the other team to go negative 7 or more points. Points are scored by bidding for and winning tricks, which in this game are called books.

CAREGIVER SUPPORT WORKSHOPS

- Most caregivers share a core struggle. How can you reach out to alleviate the suffering of others and continue to give with an open heart? How do you avoid the immobilizing despair community relief workers call compassion fatigue? This group we will explore how to: Be who you are; Know what you know; and Do what you need to do. Medicare assistance program
- Presentation: Tuesday, August 16th

- The Michigan Medicare Assistance Program's (MMAP) mission is to educate, counsel and empower Michigan's older adults and individuals with disabilities and those who serve them, so that they can make informed health benefit decisions. Certified volunteer counselors offer free, unbiased services for Medicare beneficiaries and their representatives. 30-minute appointments can be scheduled in advance by calling MMAP at 1-800-803-7174 or 734-727-2067 and specifying you are requesting an appointment at the Canton Senior Center. If you don't have an appointment, please visit Canton Club 55+ on August 16th to pick-up Medicare information resources. For a counseling session, please come prepared with your Medicare Card and details on the prescription drugs you take on a regular basis including name, dosage and quantity. Immediately following the presentation, counselors will be on-site ready to be of assistance.

grief support group

- During periods of intense grief, it's okay to feel a wide array of emotions. A grief support group will help guide you towards living life again. Group leader Ann will support you through the grieving process, as you walk towards healing and rebuilding your life within this "new normal". This group will meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month. - Pet-assisted therapy has many benefits such as improved mental stimulation, memory stimulation, lessened levels of anxiety, reduced risk of depression, lowered blood pressure and so much more! cutest animal contest registration
Held at Club 55+, Parkview Room, August 1st - 31st
- Do you think you have the cutest pet in the community? Then be sure to enter our contest. To enter your animal into the contest, please bring in a picture to Club 55+ of your animal or email to jennifer.galazka@cantonmi.gov. Be sure to include the animals name. The animal can be alive or deceased. One entry per person. Members are welcome to cast their vote in person at Club 55+ for .50 cents a vote (benefiting senior services and an animal nonprofit) The Winner of the Cutest Animal Contest will be featured in an upcoming edition of Prime Times newsletter as well as win a fun prize!
