May is Building Safety Month

Building Safety Month

This month, Canton will participate in Building Safety Month. Building Safety Month is an international campaign celebrated each May to raise awareness about building safety.
For more than 42 years, Building Safety Month has reinforced the need for the adoption of modern, regularly-updated building codes, and helps individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures
Homes and buildings that are built in compliance with building safety codes and the officials who enforce the codes are essential to helping communities become affordable, resilient, and energy and water-efficient. Building Safety Month provides homeowners, government officials, and the public with the necessary information and resources to prepare and protect our built environment.
This year’s theme is “it starts with you,” and the campaign will focus on what you can do to make your home safe, community preparedness, global challenges, the importance of building safety professional and how to advocate for your community.
“In honor of Building Safety Month, I’d like to recognize the entire Building and Inspection Services staff who take the welfare and protection of our residents and visitors very seriously and work diligently every day to maintain a high standard for building quality and safety,” said Jade Smith, Canton Municipal Services Department Director.
