Shaun Boothe: The Unauthorized Biography Series

Join us on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 7 p.m. to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Presented by the Commission for Culture, Arts, and Heritage, Members of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Sub-Committee and Canton Township, "The Unauthorized Biography Series" is a musical project that celebrates the world’s greatest cultural icons through biographical hip hop songs.

See the creator of ‘The Unauthorized Biography Series’ Shaun Boothe in action in this promotional video, which features cultural icons such as Bob Marley, Muhammad Ali, Malala Yousafzai, Oprah Winfrey and more.  Get your tickets today to see this inspiration speaker and performing artist live on stage at The Village Theater on MLK Day!

Each chapter of the series captures the legacy of a positive and influential iconic figure in a documentary-style music video. This engagement is supported by the Arts Midwest Touring Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Crane Group.

Join us for an evening of learning about the ancient art of Haiku poetry combined thoughtfully with watercolor painting in our beautiful Gallery space.

During this workshop, participants will learn the basics of writing Haiku - poems that are a mere 17 syllables but packed with meaning and insight. This two-hour class will also explore the combination of poetry with painting, tapping into your own creativity to start the practice of writing your own haiku. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a new perspective of finding beauty and take home your own custom journal to start observing and expressing in it every day. No experience necessary.

This class is appropriate for ages 21 and over. All supplies/materials will be provided. One complimentary glass of wine included free of charge. Additional glasses available for purchase - cash only. Space is limited. Register online today!  Fee: $20

Participants will meet in the Gallery to enjoy a guided tour of the Art Exhibit led by the Village Theater’s Art Staff. Enjoy complimentary coffee and donuts. Free transportation is available between the Summit and the Village Theater. Alice in Wonderland

Alice refuses to do her homework. Preferring to play and day-dream, she hides in her father’s study. Out of nowhere comes a curious looking rabbit, eater of novels. Wanting to keep the rodent from devouring all the books, Alice chases the rabbit through his borough and discovers a wonderland. All must have a ticket including children being held. Rated G.

Gryphon Trio

Sensory Sensitive Movie Series:
During the Inclusive Sensory Sensitive Movie showings the sound system will be turned down, and the house lights up to create a comfortable environment for all to enjoy. These reduced capacity showings allow for more space where moviegoers can walk around, sing, shout, dance, clap and talk. Moviegoers are welcome to bring any fidget devices or comfort items from home. A limited number of headphones, weighted blankets and fidget devices will be available for check out during your visit. Designated Quiet Spaces are always available for all movies and performances at The Village Theater. Tickets: $5.

Go behind the curtains at the Village Theater during this high energy theater program where participants will explore specialty workshops in improvisation, dance, visual arts and technical direction. A fun patch is included for each registered scout. Life is a Cabaret

Join us for a night of musical inspiration and hope as local performance artists put on a charity cabaret show you will never forget. LIVE From The Starlight Lounge will feature a variety of songs for all ages that will elicit hope and inspiration. Event activities will include a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, cash bar, Coldstone Ice Cream Bar and Sweets Buffet! Rated: G. Approx. run time: 2 hrs. Tickets: $25


Kid's Charity Comedy Show

February 8, 2:00 p.m.
Connection Church

Featuring a variety of acts and entertainers all on one stage, this special performance aims to raise money for organizations that work with kids. Headlining the show is Randy and Ben Christensen, who have performed for circuses, on cruise lines, and you may have even seen them on TV! Both Randy and Ben hold the title of WCA Master Clown. These hilarious physical comedians will have you and your family rolling in the aisles. The first act will feature a number of other talented comedy performers and variety artists, including award-winning juggler, Will Oltman. Proceeds will be donated to local, national and international programs that work with kids. Funds will help kids with essential needs overseas like clean water and mosquito netting, as well as help provide learning opportunities for kids locally through Connection, and sponsor programs for low income communities around the United States through Quality Programs. Thank you for being a part of this endeavor! Rated G-Run 2 hrs. Tickets: $12-$25
