Artist Bio
Chuck Schroeder was born in Detroit, MI, and was raised in Northwest Detroit.  He graduated from Henry Ford High School in 1968.  He now lives in Livonia with his wife, Vicki, and their two cats.

Chuck really developed his style of drawing in High School using the BiC Cristal ballpoint pen which was always accessible for doing his schoolwork.  His drawings have a lot of fine detail, and this pen allows him to do the shading that he likes.

His drawing was put on the back burner while working full time and raising his two children.  He started doing it again a few years ago and now has about 140 drawings to his credit.  His drawings are done on illustration board, so he had to search for a printer that has a large flat-bed scanner to make his scans for him.  A friend of his found one in Portland, MI.  There are only three of these scanners in the U. S. (one of which is in the Smithsonian Institute).  His subject matter has evolved since the “early days”.

He is a member of the Visual Arts Association of Livonia (VAAL).  He has shown his work in a few Michigan Art Fairs.  Among them are the 2014 Harrisville Harmony Weekend (where he was awarded an Honorable Mention), 2014 Alpena Lighthouse Festival, 2015 Tawas Bay Fine Arts Exhibition (where he was awarded the Best in His Art Form and Best of Michigan), and the 2015 Harrisville Harmony Weekend.  He has had a month-long One-Man Show at the Livonia Civic Center and Harrisville Dragonfly Gallery.  He has displayed and sold art at the Art in The Loft in Alpena for two years.  Some local shows that he has participated in are the Village Theater in Canton and the Livonia Arts Council Fine Arts Exhibition (where he won the Mayor’s Award).

Exhibition Dates:  April 1-28, 2016

This art exhibit is at the Gallery@VT and is free and open to the public:

Monday – Friday 10 am – 2 pm, one hour prior to and during public performances at the theater, as well as by appointment.  The Gallery@VT is closed on holidays.

The gallery is located at 50400 Cherry Hill Rd., Canton 734/394-5300.

Chinese Festival

Chinese Spring Festival

Many thanks to all of this year's Chinese Spring Festival performers and those who turned out to witness this special celebration on Saturday March 12th.  This year's event was a huge success with over 350 performers, who brought Chinese culture and history to the stage through Classical, Folk, and Modern music and dance. An audience of 375 people enjoyed the show as well as the beautiful displays in our lobby.  This annual event is getting bigger every year and will be back next March!

Acts of Culture Week

May 1-8, 2016

Mark your calendar for the 6th Annual Acts of Culture Week, May 1-8, 2016.  This fun and exciting week long celebration will feature everything from music and art to fashion.

Kicking off the week will be the Michigan Opera Theatre on May 1st  presenting "How Nanita Learned to Make FLAN!"  A great way for young families to celebrate Cinco de Mayo (a few days early!)  Flan, made locally by Los Amigos Restaurant, will be sold following the performance: $3 each or 2 for $5 (limited supply).

This delightful 45 minute opera for children will be sung, in English – with some Spanish, by the professional singers of the Michigan Opera Theatre.  Music by Enrique Gonzalez-Medina. Libretto by Campbell Geeslin.

Join a little girl on a fairy tale journey filled with discovery...danger...and delicious flan! "Tap, tap, tap" goes Papa's little hammer. Nanita's papa is a shoemaker who works so hard he doesn't even have time to make his own daughter a pair of shoes. Now Nanita's First Communion is coming up, but how can she appear before Our Lady of Guadalupe in bare feet?

"Tap, tap, tap." So Nanita decides make the shoes for herself. But somehow, her odd little creations turn out to be enchanted, and they sleepwalk her far, far away. When she awakens, poor Nanita is lost.

How this feisty heroine finds her way back home is sure to delight all, as will the recipe for magical flan.

Presented by the Michigan Opera Theatre in partnership with the Commission for Culture, Arts and Heritage as part of Canton’s Acts of Culture Week 2016.

May 3: Michigan Philharmonic Youth Orchestra will perform, featuring more than 100 young people from surrounding communities. There are four Ensembles – two STRING Ensembles under the direction of Hektor Qyteti and two Youth Orchestras under the direction of Jan Washburn.
