Latanyta Manuel

Staff Spotlight: Latanyta Manuel

Meet Latanyta Manuel, who has spent the last several months as a Summit Preschool Helper. This Madonna University graduate, has volunteered countless hours in non-profit organizations, as well as educational programs for young children. Although her professional career led her in a different direction, she has found her way back to her first love of teaching children and crafting. She has four wonderful grandchildren that keep her active and up to date, and is looking forward to another fun-filled year!

Engaging Children in STEM Education

STEM can take many forms for preschool aged children. It can be as simple as building bridges or even towers to see whose the tallest. Ask questions like, “Why is this one taller and doesn’t tip as easy? How are the towers different? What if …?” Be sure to give your child the opportunity to try different things and experiment with different designs. You can even change it up and get creative with the materials you supply. It can be as simple as blocks, stacking cups, candy heart towers or even try spaghetti and marshmallow designs. The key is to tap into your child’s natural curiosity to engage their learning, spend time together and don’t forget to have fun!
