Annual Fishing Derby Returns

Take advantage of the chance to catch a big fish in Heritage Park this Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., when the ponds will once again be stocked with Rainbow Trout and hybrid bluegills.  Area residents of all ages are invited to take part in this annual event, where no fishing license is required. Make sure to bring your own fishing pole! A limited number of worms will be available for purchase, while supplies last. Registration fees are just $6 for Canton Residents and $8 Non-Residents and can be paid onsite the day of the event at the concession trailer near the large pond in Heritage Park; cash only please.  Registration includes a ribbon that allows the participant to take home up to three fish.  Find more information here  or call 734/394-5460.  

Tennis Play Day 

May 6 from 9-11am

Bring the whole family to Griffin Park, located on Sheldon Road between Cherry Hill and Saltz Roads, on Saturday, May 6, for plenty of tennis fun!  Canton Sports Center staff will be on the court giving free "mini" lessons for peewees, juniors and adults from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Racquets provided. Canton Acts of Culture Week Currently Underway

Canton is once again focusing a spotlight on arts and culture during the 7th annual Canton Acts of Culture Week. This special week, presented by the Canton Commission for Culture, Arts and Heritage, runs now through Monday, May 8, 2017 at various community locations.
Some of the many goals of Canton's Acts of Culture Week include: showcasing community cultural resources and partnerships; celebrating diverse culture offerings; raising awareness of arts accessibility; instilling an appreciation of local arts organizations; and promoting the arts and heritage in and around the Canton community.  Find a complete schedule of events online and help celebrate the arts in Canton!

Each month on the ninth day from May through October, Pheasant Run will be holding special events as part of the USGA Play9 initiative. Canton Farmers Market Regular Season Starts This Month

The first Farmers Market will kick off the season on Sunday, May 14 from 9am-1pm at Preservation Park, located at 500 N. Ridge Road, Canton. This open-air-market features a variety of Michigan grown and made food as well as hand crafted items. Buy local and learn how your food is grown or made while benefiting our local economy.

Healthy Summer Kick Off Event

Saint Joseph Mercy Health System is teaming up with Canton Leisure Services to offer the area’s annual Healthy Summer Kick-Off on May 20 from 12pm to 3pm. Join TV health reporter, Lila Lazarus for this strolling, family-friendly event being held at St. Joseph Mercy Canton, located at 1600 S. Canton Center Road. St. Joseph Mercy Canton will offer a number of free health screenings including: blood pressure testing, skin cancer, body mass index (BMI) and more. Plus, Urgent Care will host a teddy bear clinic, so don’t forget to bring your favorite stuffed animal to be examined. Free Family Exercise sessions will also be offered along digital finger printing and more! Plus, Enter for a chance to win an Detroit Tigers baseball tickets and more! Water Safety Awareness Week 

Join us in celebrating National Water Safety Awareness Month by attending special Water Safety Awareness Week events on May 16 & 18 from 6-7 p.m. or May 20 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Summit Aquatic Center.  Topics that will be covered at each event include:  “Look Before You Leap,” “Reach or Throw…Don’t Go,” “Summer Safety,” and more! This event is free for Summit Members and just $5 for Residents or $10 for Non-Residents. Be sure to bring a swimsuit and towel.  Free Open Swim will follow the event. Bark in the Park Returns

May 21 from 11am - 1pm


Dog owners and their pets are invited to Bark in the Park on Sunday, May 21 from 11am – 1pm.  Participants, along with their four-legged friends, can enjoy live entertainment as well as purchase merchandise and receive free give-a-ways from local pet supply and service vendors.  Both members of the Dog Park and non-members are encouraged to let their dogs experience this off-leash dog park during this free event.  This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the Canton Dog Park, meet other pet owners, and give dogs the opportunity to become more socialized.  Please note: Non-dog park members must show proof of up-to-date vaccination for Rabies and Distemper, which must be signed by an accredited veterinarian.  The Canton Dog Park is located at Denton Road, north of Cherry Hill.

2017 Liberty Festival Coming Attractions

June 15-17

Preparations are now being finalized for Canton's best annual summer tradition.  Make plans to join us for Canton's 26th Annual Liberty Festival from Thursday, June 15 through Saturday, June 17 on the grounds of Heritage Park, located behind the Canton Administration Building at 1150 S. Canton Center Road. This year's event will feature three fun-filled days of great entertainment, exciting rides and Midway games, delicious food featuring a Taste of Liberty Festival as well as a variety of food trucks, two stages of live entertainment, a spectacular fireworks display and much, much more!  Festival-goers who can't get enough of their favorite carnival rides can purchase discounted ride wristbands online now through Thursday, June 15 at Noon. The Megaband will give you unlimited access to all wristband approved rides, during all three days of the event, for just $60.  Megabands can only  be purchased in advance online. Single Day unlimited ride wristbands that are valid for any one day are $22 each online before the Festival and at the carnival will cost $25 for Thursday, $27 for Friday, and $30 on Saturday.  All discounted wristband online sales will end on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Noon.
