So much is happening in Canton this summer! Check out some of the exciting events coming up this month as we celebrate National Parks & Recreation Month!

Family Camp-Out & Movie Night

Join us on Friday, July 14, as area families are invited to “camp out” overnight in Heritage Park and take in a movie under the stars, featuring Disney/Pixar's “Finding Dory,” (Rated PG). Plenty of fun activities have been planned before the feature starting at 6 p.m., including: games, activities and entertainment for the entire family. In addition, dinner and concession items will be sold Friday evening.  To participate in this overnight activity, a $21 per tent fee must be paid on site. No advance reservation necessary. Campers and RV’s are also welcome. Please note, no electricity will be available. Set up begins at noon on Friday, July 14. For those not staying the night, there is a $6 per person fee to take part in the evening’s activities. Canoeing on Friday and a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning will be available for a nominal fee. 

Michigan Shakespeare Festival

Michigan Shakespeare Festival Returns

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is teaming up with the Michigan Shakespeare Festival to bring several special performances to Canton this summer. From July 28 - August 13, the Michigan Shakespeare Festival will present its 2017 Season lineup at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road, Canton, MI, 49187. Performances will include: William Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew" and "The Tragedy of Julius Caesar" along with “The Seagull” by Anton Chekhov. Yoga In the Park Returns to Benefit Wounded Warrior Project

Join world-renowned speaker, Wounded Warrior, and Yoga teacher Dan Nevins as he leads an inspirational outdoor yoga session on Saturday, July 22 at 9 a.m. in Heritage Park. All proceeds from this event, sponsored by Old Glory Flags and Flagpoles of Canton, MI and Canton Leisure Services, will go to benefit Wounded Warrior Project. Nevins credits the practice of yoga for turning his life around after losing his both legs in Iraq. Join him for this special yoga session in Heritage Park.  Tickets are $35 online and will be $45 the day of the event. Ticket price includes a Wounded Warrior Project gift bag; while supplies last. Tickets are currently on sale now. Participants will receive a tax statement at the end of 2017 stating the portion of their donation that is tax deductible. Operation Care Package donation items

Operation Care Package Underway

Help thank our deployed troops and wounded soldiers for their service by donating items during the Summit’s Operation Care Package collection drive. All month long, we are collecting items to be included in care packages that will be distributed by Operation Care Package Michigan, an area non-profit organization. In addition, donation items will also be collected during the Thursday Night Concert Series and Tuesdays Are Terrific concerts in July. For additional information, visit www.summitonthepark.org 

Second Annual Canton Senior Games

A wide variety of events has been scheduled for Seniors interested in competing in the Second Annual Canton Senior Games, which are scheduled to take place August 22-25.  Canton Club 55+ will offer a variety events in which seniors may compete in for a nominal fee for a chance to win in their age category.   
 
Events include:Sports Tournaments (Golf, Pickleball, Tennis, Billiards), Cards/Wii Games (Euchre, Pinochle, Will Bowling, Trivia), and Field Games (Bean Bag Toss, Bocce Ball, Softball Throw, Basketball Shot, Football Toss and Ring Toss) 
 
Competitions will take place throughout Canton at:  Pheasant Run Golf Club, Summit on the Park, Heritage Park, Freedom Park and Griffin Park.  Registration begins online at www.cantonfun.org July 3, 2017. Game and tournament fees are $2 for Summit Members; $2 for Canton Residents, and $3 for Non-Residents for each activity.  Golf tournament fees are: $50 for Canton Residents and $55 for Non-Residents.  For additional information, call the Canton Club 55+ front desk at 734/394-5485.

Be sure to stop by the Canton Farmers Market and show your support for our local farmers and vendors!  Located at 500 N. Ridge Rd., the Farmers Market takes place every Sunday from 9 am – 1 pm rain or shine, until October 16.  Please note: that the Farmers Market will be CLOSED on Sunday, July 2nd for the July 4th Holiday weekend. This family-friendly market offers a wide variety of produce, foods, handmade items, and more.  Stop by this popular Canton destination and discover something new!


4th Annual Rally on Ridge at New Location
On Tuesday, July 25, 2017, area residents are invited to attend the  Fourth Annual Rally on Ridge in the Cherry Hill Village District and also at Preservation Park, located at 500 N. Ridge Road, for a festive evening of food, fun, music, and more to benefit the Canton Farmers Market. Stop by from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. to partake in local eats with friends, family, and neighbors and enjoy special activities for all ages. Join us for this special fundraiser that will feature several popular gourmet food trucks, live local musicians, and lawn games as well as children's activities at Cherry Hill School. This year's major event sponsor is Toll Brothers.  Come out for a great night featuring tasty food and plenty of summer fun to support the Canton Farmers Market! .

July is Family Golf Month at Pheasant Run Golf Club

Pheasant Run Junior Golf Academy returns Wednesdays starting July 12 for five consecutive weeks from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. providing lessons, range time, and 9 holes. Junior golfers of all levels are welcome to join and will learn the fundamental techniques of pitching, putting, chipping, and the full swing. This program will also cover safety, etiquette, course management and proper pace of play. Each day students will spend time learning the game of golf and then have an opportunity to take those skills to the golf course. Lunch is provided each session. This popular course is just $269. Don’t miss these great opportunities to introduce your kids to the life-long benefits of the game of golf. National Night Out Returns
The Canton community is invited to attend this year’s National Night Out featuring Canton’s Annual ‘Not In Our Town’ Community Peace Rally on Tuesday, August 1, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Heritage Park, located behind the Canton Administration building at 1150 S. Canton Center Road.  This community event, hosted by Canton Police Department, Canton Public Library, Canton Response to Hate Crime Coalition (CRHCC), and Canton Leisure Services will include activities such as: musical entertainment, guest speakers, refreshments, and children’s activities. Refreshments will also be provided; while supplies last. All ages are invited to attend this free event promoting inclusion and tolerance that will celebrate Canton’s pride and appreciation of its diverse population.  For additional information, please visit www.cantonpublicsafety.org
