Summit on the Park Facility Update

So much is happening in Canton this summer! Check out some of the exciting events coming up for August!

Summit on the Park Facility Update

Beginning Monday, September 7th at 12 Noon, the Summit on the Park will close for its Annual Maintenance Shutdown. The Summit, with the exception of the Aquatic Center, will re-open on Saturday, September 12th at 6 a.m. Please note that the Aquatic Center will be Closed for Renovations for 5 weeks and will re-open on Sunday, October 11th at 7 a.m.   These renovations will ultimately improve the Aquatic Center environment. 

Affected areas include: Entire Aquatic Center; Aquatic Center Locker Rooms (including special accommodation); Family Locker Room; Sauna; and Steam Room.   Please note that there will be no access to Aquatic Center Locker Rooms and shower facilities during the Aquatic Center’s 5-week closure.  Fitness Center Locker Rooms will remain open and available for all Summit guests.  Renovation Projects will include: Pool Filter Replacement; Aquatic Center Painting & Tile Repair; and Locker Room Improvements.
 
As a thank you to our Summit Members for their patience during these renovations, current members will get a total of 5 weeks of membership added to their current membership starting on September 8, 2015.  This is in addition to the extra week that is already included in all annual memberships to accommodate the week-long Annual Summit Maintenance Shutdown. 

Regular swim lessons will not be offered during this 5-week shut down and the next session is scheduled to begin October 11, 2015; however, Summit Swim School Participants will not be charged for September and October 2015.  Summit Swim School programs will resume the week of October 11, 2015, as well.

Community Calendar

Family Field Day

The heart of summer is here and Canton Leisure Services is inviting you to take part in the First Annual Family Field Day and Movie in the Park.  Come on out for a little friendly competition that the whole family can enjoy on Friday, August 7, near the Heritage Park Amphitheater starting at 7 p.m. Featured activities include: old favorites such as potato sack races, shoe kicks, and our new exciting inflatable obstacle course.  This is a great photo opportunity, so remember to bring your camera. No advanced registration is required.  The $10 per family fee can be paid on-site. The fun continues following the Family Field Day with a special showing of Disney’s movie “Frozen” (rated PG) outside in the park on the big screen. Canton Leisure Services is holding an Open House on Wednesday, August 26 from 5-7 p.m., as part of the fall program registration kick off.  Plus, we'll be celebrating Bartlett the Beaver’s 2nd Birthday as well! Learn everything you need to know about upcoming fall classes, programs, and events during this special Open House at the Summit on the Park, located at 46000 Summit Parkway. Be sure to take advantage of this last chance to save with Early Bird pricing on designated program registrations. Enjoy food, games, and activities for all ages. Plus, the bounce house will also be on site.

B.L.O.C.K. Youth and Teen Center

Canton’s popular After-School and Summer program is available to all teens ages 11-17 and features daily programming, tutoring, outreach, and recreation opportunities. This unique teen center encourages teens to gain hands-on experience with activities such as teen TV, cooking, music, art, youth and teen council, and much more. Shakespeare Festival

Michigan Shakespeare Festival

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is teaming up with the Michigan Shakespeare Festival to bring several special performances to Canton this summer.  From now - August 16, the Michigan Shakespeare Festival will present its 2015 Season lineup at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road.  Performances will include: William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Henry IV,” along with Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s “The Rivals.” Don’t miss these quality productions, featuring respected and professional Equity Actors.  Get your tickets now at www.cantonvillagetheater.org or call 734/394-5300 for more information.

Be sure to stop by the Canton Farmers Market and show your support for our local farmers and vendors!  Located at 500 N. Ridge Rd., the Farmers Market takes place every Sunday from 9 am – 1 pm rain or shine, until October 18.

This family-friendly market offers a wide variety of produce, foods, handmade items, and more.  Stop by this Sunday and discover something new!

Canton Dog Park Yappy Hour

Yappy Hour is a great opportunity to mingle with other dog lovers at the Dog Park. Join us for the last Yappy Hour of summer on August 22 from 11 am - 12 pm.  Snacks for 2 and 4-legged friends will be provided and there will be plenty of free giveaways! No pre-registration is necessary, however, Dog Park membership is required.

Pheasant Run

Annual Senior Golf Outing

Pheasant Run’s Senior Golf Outing will take place at Pheasant Run Golf Club on Tuesday, August 25. Check in begins at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Enjoy continental breakfast, 18 holes of golf with a cart, BBQ lunch at the clubhouse and great prizes  Come as a foursome or single. Golfers must register before August 21 at the Club 55+ Senior Center Front Desk  Registration is $49 for residents and $54 for non-residents. For more information, call the Senior Desk at 394-5485.

Nine, Wine and Dine
