Camp & Class Registration Day

Have you started looking for unique ways for your kids to remain active, engaged and have fun this summer - all without their electronic games and devices? Then Canton's Camp & Program Registration Day at the Summit on the Park is the perfect place to come and see what Canton Leisure Services has to offer. Several representatives from our traditional summer camps, weekly camps, and summer programs will be available to answer all of your questions. In addition, staff will also be on hand to assist with camp and class registration. 

Whether you're looking to dance yourself fit, make the perfect Pierogie, take a women's self-defense class, or brush up on your painting skills, you'll find these enriching classes and more in the 2019 Spring/Summer Discover Brochure. Mom to Mom Sale

Looking for a few good deals on gently-used children's clothing, furniture, and toys?  Look no further!  The Summit on the Park will once again be hosting its annual Mom to Mom Sale in the gymnasium on Saturday, March 16.  Check out all the "new-to-you" items available! Canton Farmers Market

Canton Off-Season Farmers Market - Sunday, March 24

Our next Off-Season Farmers Market will be held on Sunday, March 24, in the Summit on the Park's Banquet Center, located at 46000 Summit Parkway.  Market hours will be held from 10 am - 2 pm. A variety of local vendors will be onsite offering a wide assortment of Michigan-grown and made products, including: honey, produce, baked goods, jams, spices, granola, hand-crafted items and more!. Learn more on our Facebook page! This market will also feature the food truck, Simply Spanish, who will be onsite offering traditional Spanish sandwiches and paella. The Canton Public Library will also have an activity, as well as storytimes for the kids to help celebrate 'March is Reading Month'. During this indoor market, Bridge Card and Double Up Food Bucks transactions will also be accepted. Tokens may be purchased at the Canton Leisure Services information table. Be sure to mark your calendars, because the last Off-Season Market will be held at the Summit on the Park on Sunday, April 14.  See you at the Market!

Community Gardens

If you are looking for space to grow your own produce, Canton Leisure Services has a great opportunity for you to give your green thumb a try! Applications are now being accepted for the Canton Community Gardens, which are located in the east gardens near the Canton Dog Park and west gardens at Preservation Park near the barn. Three plot sizes are available for rent: Medium (4’ x 6’), Large (8’ x 10’), and Extra Large (10’ x 18’) on a first come, first serve basis. Chinese Spring Festival Dancers

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill Update

The Chinese Festival Subcommittee of the Canton Commission for Culture, Arts and Heritage is proud to present a very special Chinese Spring Festival on Saturday, March 23.  Enjoy a memorable evening of Folk, Modern, & Classical dances performed by Metro Detroit area dance schools, numerous vocal performances featuring solos, duets, and choirs, plus instrumental performances featuring ancient Chinese instruments. Join us at 6 pm when the doors open to enjoy cultural displays by local Chinese schools.  The Mainstage performance will be begin at 7 pm, featuring solo performances by Xuan Gao, Shubo Fang of the Peking Opera, and Shuping Ma of the Italian Opera.  The evening will also feature duets, as well as the Canton Philharmonic Choir, Michigan Chinese Choir and March Wind Choir. Tickets are just $5. 

The Second City Tour Company makes a popular return to continue its sold out record at The Village Theater on Saturday, April 13. Edgy, thought-provoking and always spectacularly funny, The Second City will present “It’s Not You, It’s Me” at 7:30 pm.  Tickets are just $35.  Don't miss a chance to see this national touring company as it celebrates nearly six decades of producing cutting-edge revues and launching the careers of generation after generation of comedy’s best and brightest.

Village Theater Call for Artists

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is now accepting proposals for our 2020 Galley@VT exhibition season. The deadline for submissions is April 11, 2019.  All artistic mediums will be considered. The Village Theater's exhibition committee, which is comprised of local artists and art educators, will make the final decisions regarding the 2020 exhibition season. The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is a premier performing arts center in Southeast Michigan. On average, 5,000 individuals visit the theater each month. Easter Bunny Event

Easter Egg-citement!

Join us for a special fun-filled Easter event on Saturday, April 13, at Heritage Park and the Summit on the Park, when Canton's annual Easter Eggstravaganza will be held from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm.  On-site registration will be available for $4 per child for Canton Residents and $5 per child for Non-Residents.  Continuous egg hunts will be held for children up to 11 years of age in an effort to help keep the “hunting” fair for even our littlest participants.

Maximize your experience by registering for the Easter Bunny Breakfast, which takes place just prior to this event in the Summit’s Grand Ballroom from 9 am – 11 am! Tickets for the breakfast will be on sale at the Summit front desk from March 11 through April 5. Tickets for residents are: $16 for ages 13 and up, $11 for ages 4-12, and $5 for ages three and under.  Tickets for non-residents are $19 for ages 13 and up, $13 for ages 4-12, and $6 for ages three and under. Spring adult softball registration now open

Over 300 teams enjoy the double-header leagues played at Canton’s premier softball complex, featuring 12 lighted fields, covered dugouts and full-service Sports Bar & Grill. The Canton Sports Center is located at 46555 Michigan Avenue.  2019 leagues are available Sundays-Fridays from April-October. Youth Baseball and Softball Leagues

Greater Canton Youth Baseball and Softball Association (GCYBSA) is currently accepting registration for its Spring 2019 season for girls and boys ages 4-18, now through March 15, 2019. Programs include: Small Ball, T-Ball, Coach Pitch, Kid Pitch, and Girls Softball. Spring Session Begins May 5
Make water safety a priority for you and your family with swim lessons at the Summit on the Park!  Our aquatic staff strives to foster a lifelong love for swimming, health and wellness, as well as aquatic safety. All swim lessons are taught by highly-trained swim instructors and supervised by award-winning lifeguards. Classes are offered at many levels, including: Beginners, Stroke Refinement, Competitive Training, and Conditioning. All aquatic classes take place at Summit on the Park indoor aquatic center.

Together Towards Tomorrow

Together Towards Tomorrow 

On Saturday, April 27, participants of The B.L.O.C.K. Youth and Teen Center will host a youth-led walk against violence and hate, in partnership with Canton Public Safety, called “Together Towards Tomorrow.” The walk, which will be held in Heritage Park from 1:00 – 2:30 pm, is intended to be a peaceful demonstration of participants’ commitment to a community and a future that is based on peace and tolerance.  This free event will also bring attention to issues area youth are passionate about, including: bullying, gun violence, mental health and more. The event will include a guest speaker, music, and poster-making for the walk around the large pond. The event will also include an onsite T-Shirt sale, with proceeds benefiting the Youth Advisory Council Endowment Fund, which grants funds to other youth organizations in the community that make a difference. Youth of all ages are encouraged to attend.

Dog Park Update

Spring is hopefully closing in and with the melting snow comes muddy conditions.  Do remember to keep an extra towel on hand to help with wiping down your four-legged family member and be sure to use extra precaution when maneuvering through muddy pathways.  In addition, please be sure to renew your Dog Park Membership by April 1 to avoid key fob interruption.  Find additional dog park information on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cantonmidogpark.

 
Golf Update

Dust off your clubs because golf season is right around the corner!  Come visit Pheasant Run Golf Club at the Michigan Golf Show at the Suburban Collection Showcase in Novi on Friday, March 8, through Sunday, March 10.  Stop by booth #532 for great deals on close-out apparel, as well as details about Pheasant Run’s upcoming season.  Not long after that, Pheasant Run will open for the season – weather permitting. So start practicing your swing and get ready for some beautiful spring golf at discounted rates.
